“We will remember them” – now it is our turn to stand for moderation

Our grandparents risked and died for us. Now it is our time to stand as moderates against totalitarianism of both left and right.

“We will remember them…”

An incredible and poignant piece of writing and delivery in Blackadder Goes Forth (below).

My infinite thanks to those, like my grandad and grandma (and maybe yours, of so many nations and peoples, all over the world) who gave and risked their lives willingly to reject the threat of totalitarian dominance of a people, and preserve the dream of freedom for all. ‘Blackadder’ makes the point that even the imperfect characters are valuable, even sacred, and worthy of their freedom (subject to the freedom of others too).

And we are they.

Let us now recognise our own role in our day, and reject current totalitarian threats within our own nations, that exist from both left and right extremes of politics. Let’s be strong moderates.

Our grandparents’ work could never be so complete as to enable us to be complacent. Now it is our turn to stand.
